What better way is there to stay in touch and keep our spirits up than to play a next-generation game? For too many of us, the friends we’re playing with are the most important ones, but we may not be able to see them every day or even live anywhere near them. They are the people we want to spend much of our spare time with, talk to about what we’re going through in our lives while we storm enemy camps or drop into Verdansk together. The new wave of cross-platform gaming means that it’s simpler than ever to keep in contact with your friends regardless of their platform.
On the other hand, it also offers the opportunity for a much-needed break from reality if they burn down enemy camps in the new Call of Duty, visit the Wild West Plains in Red Dead Redemption 2, or face each other in a classic FIFA encounter.
In these unprecedented days, discovering creative ways to keep in contact with family and close friends is more important than ever. Of course, to keep the good times rolling, you’re going to need a next-gen console. That’s why one Reddit user, in an extraordinary act of generosity, wanted to provide his friend of 15 years with a PS5 of his own.
After figuring out that one of his friends, with whom he had played for the better part of 15 years, did not get the new PS5, one man wanted to surprise him with a console to ensure that they could maintain the trend of gaming with each other.
After all, the two have been on a lot of journeys, both interactive and otherwise.
Reddit user ghost knight_1121 admitted that when his friend and gaming companion couldn’t get his hands on the new console, he moved in and saved the day.
“I have some decent gaming experiences with him. He tried but couldn’t get one. Little did he realize I was able to get him one. Hoping to play another generation with him.”
Many Reddit users responded by applauding the contributions of ghost knight_1121.
One of them responded, “It’s already said, but your groovy,” while another wrote, “You’re amazing! Don’t believe I could handle the good…”
And one joked, “The only choice is to buy one for everyone.”
Sharing a picture of himself with his friend and the all-important PS5, he wrote, “You’ve been playing with this guy for 15 years since Rainbow Six Vegas on 360.”
Although many excited fans were able to get their hands on the PS5, a lot of shops sold out in record time.
The launch date for PS5 in North America, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and New Zealand was November 12, 2020, just two days after the launch of its next-generation competitors, the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The console became available to the rest of the world one week later on November 19.
Those lucky enough to even get possession of one, like our two friends above, can feel pretty unhappy right now as they’re actually on sale for as much as $1,999 (£1,515) on eBay.
The regular RRP for the PlayStation update is $499 (£499.99 in the UK), but the market seems so strong that some people are selling it for two to three times the market price.
Speaking to Radio 1 Newsbeat about the launch of PS5 during a pandemic, Jim Ryan, President of PlayStation, said the unveiling of the console was a roller coaster.
He said, “The most incredible thing is all of this took place in 2020. One other thing I’ve noticed and learned is I’ll never do something like this in an epidemic again.”
PlayStation 5 will be released in the UK on November 19, although the Xbox Series X/S is now available worldwide. Whatever console you’ve been using, have a nice time with your loved ones.
Ryan continued that the company was ‘astonished’ at the number of pre-orders, saying, ‘We’re producing more PS5s in this tough world than we made PS4s in the launch. If customers can’t find one at launch, we’re very sorry and apologize for that.”
“They can feel confident we’re working very hard to get sufficient supplies into the marketplace pre and post Christmas.” stated the company.
In reality, the PS5 sold many more in the first 12 hours of its release than the PS4 did in 12 weeks, leaving many unable to get their hands on the next-generation game.
If you’re planning to get PlayStation 5 on the day of sale, it’s necessary to remember that no units will be available in-store for purchase on November 19.
Sid Shuman, Senior Management, SIE Content Communications, said, “No units will be available in-store for acquisition on inauguration day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region). Please do not intend to camp out or queue up at the nearest store on the launch day in anticipation of having a PS5 console for purchase.
Gamers who have pre-ordered for pick-up at their nearest store should also be allowed to do so at their scheduled time of appointment within the retailer’s protection protocols. Please check your information with your nearest store.”
“A huge thank you to all of our friends and colleagues for your continued support this year. Here’s the new wave of gaming!”
My heart is so filled with love right now that it could just explode—what a beautiful gesture. Well, what wonderful friends. I truly hope they have the best time together to play and learn everything that this modern wave of gaming has to bring.
